The Value Of Intelligent 3D Bridge BIM In Transportation Projects

Airing on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 12pm CT

Using intelligent 3D BIM processes and technology in bridge projects enhances communication among project stakeholders, increases productivity, improves safety, reduces time and cuts costs. BIM processes provide increased effective collaboration, which drives enhanced decision making. By using integrated technology tools and processes that enable 3D Bridge BIM design and construction to be optimized, costs can be reduced, schedules shortened, rework minimized, and productivity, quality and safety enhanced. 3D models help identify conflicts and resolve them virtually before they’re encountered on the job site, and allows project teams to better control risk by enhancing agility through the virtual process. Performance Validation and Specification Strategies

Airing on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 12pm CT

When writing specifications for civil projects, the primary objective for the engineer of record should be to ensure that the completed project performs in accordance with the design requirements.  It is therefore critical to understand how the parameters specified for products and materials relate to their performance in the constructed project.  For many materials, there are standard tests available to evaluate key properties that relate directly to accepted design methods.  However, in some cases, this approach is inadequate because there is not a direct link between specific material properties and performance.  This session will discuss concepts for performance specifications that can address these issues and ensure design integrity.
