Steven Halverson elected CIRT chairman
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT) announced the election of Steven T. Halverson, DBIA, as national chairman for a term of one year. Halverson is president and CEO of Haskell, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based integrated design-build firm in the civil infrastructure, industrial, and commercial markets. He has previously chaired the Design-Build Institute of America and the National Center for Construction Education and Research. CIRT is a national business trade association comprised of approximately 110 CEOs from leading design/construction companies doing business in the United States and globally.

AWWA announces third edition of popular operator handbook
DENVER – The American Water Works Association's (AWWA) revision of the "Water Treatment Operator Training Handbook," a popular operator training and on-the-job reference, is now available in AWWA's online store at This third edition of the handbook incorporates operator certification knowledge requirements as defined in the Associated Boards of Certification need-to-know criteria, including regulations, safety practices, and all the processes and procedures of water treatment operations. The updated handbook also has expanded chapters on membrane technology and laboratory testing and protocol.

PPI honors Jim Craig
IRVING, TEXAS – At its annual membership meeting held in May 2013, the Plastics Pipe Institute, Inc. (PPI), presented its Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award to Jim Craig in recognition of his 40 years of outstanding professional service and performance to the plastic pipe industry. Craig, who retired from McElroy Manufacturing, Inc. (Tulsa, Okla.) earlier this year, was honored for his involvement with the sales, training, and the design of fusion equipment and in the development of procedures and standards for polyethylene pipe and pipe systems. Craig served as chairman of the ASTM F17.20 Joining Sub-Committee for 15 years, past chairman of the PPI Municipal & Industrial Division, past chairman of the PPI Advisory Council, and past chairman of the Mid-Continent Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Anne Ellis elected ACI president
FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH. – Anne M. Ellis, FACI, vice president, Government Initiatives, AECOM, was elected 2013-2014 president of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). She has 33 years of experience with the AEC industry supporting public- and private-sector clients, concrete industry collaboration and advancements, and the expansion of a global, publicly traded professional services firm. At AECOM, she manages business-critical initiatives and engages in policy, legislative, and regulatory issues affecting AECOM and the clients and markets the firm serves. Additionally, Ellis oversees the day-to-day operations of the AECOM Global Advisory Board and Government Services Advisory Council.
