Modeling technology
Bentley Systems, Inc.'s V8i (SELECTseries 3) releases of its InRoads, GEOPAK, and MXROAD products now share Bentley's OpenRoads technology. OpenRoads technology allows modeling, design-time visualization, information mobility across engineering disciplines and project phases, and construction-driven engineering. It works with persistent point clouds and scalable terrain models. New offerings include constraint-driven templates; a context-sensitive, intuitive interface; geospatial analysis; and a dynamic 3D modeler. Users can visualize designs within the modeling workflow, with no translations, software, or special workflow processes required.

LID stormwater management
Oldcastle Precast and Oldcastle Architectural launched PermeCapture, a low impact development (LID) stormwater management system. The system manages water volume and provides integrated pretreatment. PermeCapture combines structural precast concrete modules (vaults) with permeable interlocking concrete pavers. Stormwater originating on the permeable paver area or running on from adjacent impervious surfaces infiltrates into the underlying aggregate base and ultimately drains through Hydraports and collects in the Storm Capture modules for controlled management.

FRP pedestrian bridge decks
Composite Advantage introduced a standard line of FiberSPAN bridge deck products for use on pedestrian truss bridges. The company established standard FRP bridge deck configurations based on AASHTO pedestrian bridge requirements and typical stringer support spacing. Bridge deck depths include 3, 3.5, 4, and 5 inches. According to the company, these product forms and depths provide designers with the specifications to incorporate FiberSPAN decking into their bridge concepts. The bridge deck product comes with a non-slip wear surface. Curbs, drainage scuppers, and expansion joints are optional.

High-strength reinforcing steel
MMFX Steel Corp. announced that the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) issued Evaluation Report ESR-2107 for MMFX2, an uncoated corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel. The report provides design guidance for using MMFX2 ASTM A1035 high-strength reinforcing steel up to 100 ksi beyond the current ACI 318 limitations from the American Concrete Institute. The ESR-2107 report demonstrates how MMFX2 ASTM A1035 Grade 100 (690 MPa) complies with all applicable areas of the 2012 and 2009 International Building Code. EPD for PVC pipe
CertainTeed Corporation secured Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its C900 RJ restrained-joint PVC pipe with Certa-Lok technology, providing independent verification that the pipe can reduce the overall impact of municipal infrastructure projects. Certified by UL Environment after reviewing detailed life cycle assessment data, the EPD evaluates the pipe on critical environmental issues such as production process impact, use of raw materials and recycled content, packaging, health aspects, and end-of-life impact – providing independent verification of the data in accordance with ISO 14025.

Fabric storage building
A Legacy Building Solutions tension fabric building, custom designed for the Indiana Department of Transportation, provides capacity to store 3,600 tons of salt for winter de-icing operations in Wabash, Ind. Legacy said its rigid frame design allows for a high level of engineering flexibility. The 85- by 160-foot building with 20-foot on-center frames sits atop an 8-foot-high concrete wall. A large front door measures 18 by 28 feet; 16- by 16-foot side doors allow trucks to enter the building single file to safely load and off-load under roof.
