FRP composite access covers
Fibrelite's FRP composite cover and frame systems provide an alternative to heavy metal and concrete access covers for sewer systems, underground pipes, drainage networks, electrical junction boxes, water treatment plants, and commercial fuel storage. Fibrelite said its covers exceed the load test requirements of AASHTO H20/25 and provide an excellent anti-slip/skid surface that is guaranteed for the life of the cover. The covers are chemically inert, not electrically conductive, and have zero resale value in the scrap market, which deters theft. Fibrelite now offers shallow trench panels in a wide range of sizes.

Pipe for trenchless installation
CertainTeed expanded its Certa-Lok restrained-joint PVC pipe offering to include an integral bell option on its 4-, 6-, and 8-inch C900 pipe. The company also added a 14-inch-diameter C905 option. All Certa-Lok pipe features a mechanical joining system, which, according to the company, utilizes a combination of precision-machined grooves and a nylon spline to provide exceptional tensile strength in pulling or pushing operations. A flexible elastomeric gasket provides a solid pressure-certified hydraulic seal. Certa-Lok pipe products do not require onsite fusion operations.

Laser scanner
Maptek's I-Site 8810 laser scanning technology features a wireless link and a new interface and layout that provide greater flexibility and faster set up, the company said. Battery time extends continuous operation to six hours. With onboard controls, the I-Site 8810 can be operated in the field with no other peripherals attached. An optional onboard USB or tablet PC can be used for scan data storage. A fully integrated compass enables easier vehicle scanning and registration, Maptek said, and a new calibration for the vehicle mount removes the impact of the vehicle on the compass.

Trench drain grate
Neenah Enterprises Inc. received a patent for a new debris chute on stormwater trench drain grates that helps avoid the problem of bolt holes filling with dirt and sand. Instead of debris gathering at the bottom of the bolt hole, the chute allows it to fall straight through into the trench below, keeping it from interfering with tightening and adjusting the bolt. According to the company, the chute eliminates problems with bolted trenches beginning to lift away from the surrounding concrete, creating a gap between the concrete and frame.
