|Open BIM software
The Nemetschek Engineering Group said its Scia Engineer 2012 release focuses on four key areas of development: interoperability with a focus on Open BIM, improvements in analysis and structural optimization, expanded support for international design codes, and usability improvements based directly on user feedback. Scia Engineer 2012 users can exchange models with almost 150 BIM-compliant software programs. In addition, a new optimization engine allows users to set up problems in Scia Engineer and automatically run comparisons to derive an optimal design solution.

|Handheld GIS computer
Altus Positioning Systems' new handheld ProCyon system for GIS applications integrates the Psion WORKABOUT PRO handheld computer with Altus' APS-3 RTK GNSS receiver. According to the company, the ProCyon system delivers 1-centimeter RTK accuracy using an external antenna, integrated camera, and quad-band GSM modem. The ProCyon Windows Mobile operating system accommodates ESRI ArcPad and ArcGIS applications. Both programs utilize NMEA messages that are standard outputs from the integrated GNSS receiver in the ProCyon.

|Catch basin debris trap
Advanced Drainage Systems Inc.'s Nyloplast EnviroHood structure can increase the effectiveness of a stormwater drainage catch basin or manhole by trapping debris, oil, sediment, and other contaminants. Made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the EnviroHood structure has a high strength-to-weight ratio due to its corrugated ribs, the company said. It is available in sizes to cover outlets from 12 to 30 inches and in models to fit round and flat concrete and Nyloplast structures.

|Pipeline Laser Profiler
Envirosigh LLC's new RedLine laser accessory attaches to the ROVVER X inspection crawler to geometrically profile the inside of buried pipelines. According to the company, captured profile data is readily analyzed using WinCan V8 inspection software to verify proper pipe installation, plan relining projects, determine remaining pipe life, monitor erosion/corrosion, quantify defects, and analyze partial collapses. The accessory profiles lines up to 18 inches in diameter when mounted directly to the crawler; larger lines are addressed by mounting the accessory to a skid that is pulled by the crawler.
|Geogrids complete NTPEP audit
Tensar International reported that its HDPE Uniaxial (UX) Geogrid product line successfully completed the National Transportation Product Evaluation Program (NTPEP) onsite audit. The NTPEP audit assesses the long-term design strength of geosynthetic reinforcement products and provides performance test results as well as index test results. More state transportation departments are using the NTPEP for product qualification; the program is highly recommended in the current FHWA and AASHTO mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall/slope design guidelines, Tensar said.
