Tailored geocells
PRS Mediterranean Ltd. introduced PRS-Neoweb, a set of geocells tailored to four specific project categories – slopes, channels, walls, and load support. Made from Neoloy, a polymeric alloy, PRS-Neoweb geocells are available in different design strengths to ensure optimal performance for each application. PRS developed a three-step process, starting with an analysis of the applied stresses, environmental durability, and ambient temperature relevant to each typical project type. It then developed a project matrix with required performance parameters.

Large-capacity stormwater chamber
CULTEC Inc.'s new Recharger 900HD stormwater detention/retention chamber is the company's largest capacity model, measuring 9.25 feet long, 78 inches wide, and 48 inches tall. It features a bare chamber storage capacity of 123.34 ft³/unit and a minimum installed storage of 190.73 ft³/unit. The 900HD features a side portal internal manifold and works together with HVLV FC-24 Feed Connectors to allow manifolding at any point within the system. Each unit can accept up to a 24-inch-diameter pipe into its endwall.

Construction camera app
OxBlue expanded its construction camera interfaces, enabling Android and Blackberry users to view high-definition, time-lapse movies of jobsites from handheld mobile devices. Movies are automatically regenerated to include the latest images. The OxBlue mobile application enables users to browse all active and completed projects. They can access current and historical weather data, and perform a digital pan, tilt, and zoom on high-resolution digital images. A calendar control enables any image to be accessed from any time during the project.

Flood-hazard mapping software
Atkins released version 10 of its FloodMap Desktop (FMD) software system for FEMA flood-hazard mapping. According to Atkins, FMD 10 offers more automation, greater flexibility, and improved data processing capabilities. Built as an extension to ESRI ArcMap 10, FMD 10 produces maps, GIS databases, metadata, Flood Insurance Study (FIS) reports, quality-control reports, flood-hazard profiles, Risk Mapping, Analysis, and Planning (MAP) Discovery maps, Flood Risk Reports, and Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) maps – all to FEMA's standards.

Rugged GNSS antenna
Trimble's new SPS985 GNSS Smart Antenna is made of a specially developed alloy that combines strength and durability and has enhanced internal shock isolation, making it well suited for high-vibration use on an all-terrain vehicle or supervisor truck, the company said. Features include a quick-release connector and smartphone configuration to make it easy to deploy and use as a base station or rover, mounted on a range pole or truck roof. Communications including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional wideband radio integrate the receiver into the connected construction site.

Pile installation monitors
Pile Dynamics Inc. released the PIR Viewer and a new version of the PIRPLOT data processing and reporting software for its Pile Installation Recorder (PIR). The PIR records and displays grout volume versus depth, along with other parameters that help the construction of augered cast-in-place and continuous flight auger piles. The PIR Viewer is a handheld WI-FI device that allows a supervisor or inspector to see, in real time, information displayed on the PIR. Post processing with PIRPLOT generates customizable presentation-quality tables and graphs.

P.E. exam guide
McGraw-Hill Professional says its book, "Civil Engineering PE Practice Exams: Breadth and Depth," by Indranil Goswami, Ph.D., P.E., is filled with hundreds of realistic practice questions based on the Principles and Practice of Civil Engineering (PE-CIVIL) exam given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. The book provides detailed solutions, including equations and diagrams, for every question and covers all exam topics, the publisher said, including structural, geotechnical, water resources and environmental, transportation, and construction.

Biaxial and uniaxial geogrids
Propex expanded its product portfolio with the addition of GridPro Biaxial and Uniaxial geogrids. According to Propex, GridPro BXP Biaxial geogrids, used for base and subgrade reinforcement, are punched and drawn from high-grade polypropylene for high flexural rigidity and high tensile strength at ribs and junctions. GridPro UXP S and W series geogrids, used for slopes and walls, are made of high-density (HDPE) resins that resist elongation when subjected to high loads for long periods of time and provide high strength and high modulus in roll direction.

Tower workstations
Dell's redesigned Dell Precision tower workstations feature a tool-less externally removable power supply; front-accessible, quick-release hard drives; and Reliable Memory Technology (RMT), which detects the location of a corrected memory error and prevents the system from writing to that spot again following a reboot. The workstations use new Intel microarchitecture and eight-core CPUs for multi-threaded applications; generation three PCIe I/O support for improved visualization performance; and up to 512GB quad channel memory

Gravity retaining walls
The British Board of Agrément (BBA) granted an Agrément Certificate to Redi-Rock International for Redi-Rock Gravity Retaining Wall and Free Standing Wall Systems. Redi-Rock says its Gravity Walls are an efficient solution for transportation projects, building close to property lines, commercial developments, storm channels, and residential projects. The BBA Certificate includes Redi-Rock architectural stone faces including the Cobblestone and Limestone textures.

Tension fabric buildings
Legacy Building Solutions launched a new website that provides information about the company's rigid-frame engineering concept and customizable tension fabric structures, including example building profiles, recent project photos, videos, and downloadable literature. It also includes suggested solutions for specific applications, and a dedicated technology page that offers a detailed look at the many considerations in the design and construction of tension fabric buildings.

3D GIS models
Bentley Systems Inc.'s Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 3) creates 3D GIS models in support of engineering decision making. According to Bentley, advanced point-cloud processing brings point-cloud data seamlessly into geospatial workflows to support the creation of intelligent 3D models that combine vector geometry, imagery, and point clouds. In addition, it allows spatial data streaming from spatial databases (Oracle Spatial, and now Microsoft SQL Server Spatial) and Open Geospatial Consortium-compliant web services.
