Welcome to spring, everyone! It feels great. And if you were like us here in the center of the country, we pretty much avoided winter altogether. Each year, we publish a "buyers' guide" covering a wide range of products and services of interest to civil engineers. This May 2012 issue of CE News is no exception. I hope you'll check it out and learn about a new product, tool, piece of software, or something else that makes your work better and easier, and makes your final projects work out the way you want them to.
It seems like every year as we get into our data collection effort necessary to assemble this guide, someone writes in to tell us, "No one needs one of those anymore – we have the Internet." But the problem is you may not even know what you are looking for to be able to Google it in the first place. Buyers' guides like this May issue of CE News can help you learn about something you didn't even know you would want or need – until you saw it here.
We had some printing issues that put us behind schedule for a few months but those should be past us now. Thanks for your patience. Also, we are getting lots of feedback to our magazine after each issue – it seems to be building. We like to hear from you with both the good and the bad. It is the only way we can get better at what we do and that is of paramount importance to us. Thank you! We greatly appreciate it!
One more thing – some months back we were contacted by the producers of the latest in a series of very popular movies about needing some copies of CE News' sister publication, Structural Engineer, for a film they are making. Evidently, one of the main characters is a structural engineer, and he, of course, reads our pub. Stay tuned for more details.
