Rettew Associates, Inc., Lancaster, Pa., garnered two environmental awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies' (ACEC) Pennsylvania Chapter. The firm was honored for its design work for the Minersville Passive Acid Mine Drainage Wetland Treatment System and for its restoration plan for the Little Conestoga Creek Watershed.

The treatment system reduces metal pollutants that originate from abandoned mines and flow into the West Branch of the Schuylkill River. The watershed management plan calls for specific restoration strategies to rehabilitate 65.5 miles of watershed between Safe Harbor, Pa., and Manheim, Pa.

Portland, Ore.-based Otak Inc., also was recently honored by the ACEC. The association's Washington and Oregon chapters recognized the firm with four Awards for Engineering Excellence — three Silver Awards and one Honor Award—for the engineering firm's work on the Tacoma Dome Commuter Rail Station and for work on the Padden Parkway West Section.

In addition to designing and providing construction support for the platform and concourse at the rail station, Otak oversaw all urban and civil design for the project. For the Padden Parkway project, the firm employed a sub-grade stabilization technique never before used on such a large scale to construct an arterial roadway through an environmentally sensitive corridor.

For the third year in a row, the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association recognized the work of North Conway, N.H.- base H.E. Bergeron Engineers (HEB). The association bestowed upon HEB its top honors in a statewide contest for the Best Topographic Map. The firm won for its detailed site plan of the Northern Building Supply, Inc., office in North Conway.
